What a journey the tech take-off has been – and we have all kinds of bright minds behind it to thank. Whilst there is a growing need for more females (statistics show that it’s been mostly men gravitating towards the industry in recent years), the tech sector is by no means entirely absent of female leaders.

In this SWiTCHED:ON blog, we take a look at some of the most influential women in tech today – the females who are revolutionising the way our world works.

Anyone involved in this industry should sit up and take note of what this group of innovators are doing. There’s so much we can learn from the leaders listed below.

Women at a desk

Susan Wojcicki CEO of YouTube

Susan Wojcicki played a huge role in one of the most noteworthy tech takeovers of our time. As a head honcho at Google Video, she encouraged her colleagues to invest in a site called YouTube. The rest, of course, is history.

After overseeing Google’s big buy, Wojcicki eventually became CEO of YouTube in 2014. She currently keeps the giant video streaming service ticking over and expanding.

Sheryl Sandberg – COO of Facebook

Sheryl Sandberg made history by becoming the first ever female to make it onto the board of directors at Facebook HQ, where she now serves as the Chief Operating Officer.

Sandberg has authored inspirational books, been listed amongst the business elite on Time’s 100 Most Influential People list, and is now valued at a staggering $1bn in terms of net worth.

Ginni Rometty CEO of IBM

Ginni Rometty has been operating in the tech world for decades, having started at IBM in 1981 and impressively working her way up to CEO and President of the entire company.

A regular inclusion on Most Powerful Women lists, Rometty has also helped IBM to evolve and modernise as an organisation, taking the company into high-growth areas like Artificial Intelligence, blockchain and quantum computing.

Angelica Ross – Founder of TransTech Social Enterprises

Angelica Ross isn’t just inspirational in terms of her business acumen – she’s also doing wonders in creating more opportunities for all gender identities in tech.

As the founder of TransTech Social Enterprises, Ross is one of the leading advocates and strongest voices when it comes to helping transgender people in the tech community – making the tech world increasingly more inclusive and diverse as a result.
